An arrest can create four related records: an agency report, a sheriff booking entry, a fingerprint and OTN cycle sent to GCIC, and an initial court record. Each has a different custodian. The police or sheriff holds its own narrative, the Chatham County Sheriff's Office holds jail intake and custody information, and the proper clerk holds formal charges and outcomes.

Booking at the county jail does not transfer ownership of a Savannah, Pooler, Port Wentworth, or other city police report to the sheriff. Use the agency field on the booking entry to route the incident request.

The list is a rolling snapshot, not a permanent Chatham County arrest-history index. If the event falls outside that span, move to the 72-hour view and then to agency or sheriff records channels.

Looking Up Chatham County Arrests

Begin with the official path that fits the age and purpose of the search. Recent intake belongs in the sheriff lists. Current custody questions belong to the jail. The incident narrative belongs to the agency named on the booking. Filed charges belong to the correct court, and a person's statewide history belongs in a GCIC self-review.

Request the Arresting Agency Report

The Chatham jail is not the custodian of every police narrative. Savannah Police records use the city's Open Records Information page and its police-specific selection. The assigned image below shows that official request route.

Pooler uses CivicPlus NextRequest and lists 912-748-7333 at 100 US Highway 80 SW. Port Wentworth reports remain with that city department. Garden City provides its own form. Georgia State Patrol matters go through the Department of Public Safety. Give the incident number, date, location, agency, record type, and preferred format.

Inside a Chatham County Arrest Record

A recent Chatham booking entry contains intake data, not a final case result. Its fields help match the event and route a follow-up request, but the court docket controls filed charges and disposition.

DIN Versus Arrest Number

A DIN helps identify the booked person within the jail system, while an arrest number identifies a particular intake event. Save both when contacting Jail Records or the arresting agency. A later court case has its own number, so connect the systems with the name, date, agency, and charge rather than expecting one identifier everywhere.

Booking Logs and Recent Arrests

Neither list is a historical archive. Intake can also precede a court filing. After 72 hours, contact Jail Records, submit a focused request for an older booking, or request the report from the originating agency. For current status, use jail phone or lobby channels rather than inferring custody from an old entry.

Booking, Fingerprints, and First Appearance

The arresting agency transports the person to the Chatham jail. Staff verify identity and authority, handle property and medical or security screening, capture fingerprints and a booking image, enter identifiers and charges, and associate bond or hold information. A judicial officer then addresses first appearance and bond.

Fingerprint-supported information can flow to GCIC with an OTN. Prosecutors later decide what accusation or indictment to pursue. This is why the booking charge can differ from the court file and final statewide disposition.

What a Zero Bond Display Means

A $0 or no-bond display can reflect a hold, a judicial status, or a point in processing rather than a simple statement about release. Confirm the current status with the jail and inspect the related warrant or court record for the controlling order.

Note: A booking bond field is a point-in-time jail display, not a substitute for the judge's current order.

Arrests Are Not Convictions

An arrest records an accusation and custody event. It does not establish guilt. Prosecutors may amend, replace, merge, decline, or dismiss charges. Only a court adjudicates the filed case, and the charge-level disposition shows how it ended.

Georgia Booking-Photo Release Rule

O.C.G.A. § 35-1-19 limits release when a requester plans to publish a booking photograph on a service that charges for removal. The rule addresses exploitative pay-to-remove publication and does not turn an image into proof of guilt. Legitimate news access remains available through open-records procedure.

This Chatham County arrest lookup does not republish booking photographs or names. Juvenile information, active-investigation material, protected victim information, and personal identifiers may be withheld or redacted.

Chatham Sheriff Arrest Record Contacts

The sheriff is the correct custodian for jail bookings, custody status, and sheriff-created arrest material. It is not the custodian for every city police report or court judgment.

For an older record, describe the incident number, date range, location, agency, and requested format. Under the Georgia Open Records Act, an agency generally responds within three business days by producing records or explaining timing and cost. That is a response period, not an absolute completion deadline.

After the Chatham Booking Window Closes

Once an entry rolls off the 72-hour display, work outward from the details already known. For a sheriff-created arrest, ask the sheriff for the older booking or releasable incident material. For a city arrest, send the report request to that city even if detention occurred at Carl Griffin Drive. A narrow request with the arrest date, place, agency, and record type is easier to search than a request for every record tied to a broad name.

Then check whether the prosecutor filed a case. re:SearchGA is the statewide starting point, but court participation and document access vary. Choose Superior Court for a felony indictment, State Court for a misdemeanor accusation, or the proper Recorder's or municipal court for a limited local matter. If the portal has no useful result, ask that clerk whether filing lag, a different case number, or an off-line record explains the gap. A state sentence creates another transition. The county booking page is not the Georgia Department of Corrections locator. After sentencing and transfer, use GDC Find an Offender for state custody information. Federal custody is separate again. How Chatham Arrests Reach GCIC

When an arrest is supported by fingerprints, the arresting agency sends identifying information and an arrest tracking number or OTN to the Georgia Crime Information Center. That creates an arrest cycle in the statewide computerized history. The court, prosecutor, or another criminal-justice agency should later report the final disposition. The timing of those steps can leave a temporary arrest-without-disposition entry.

For review of one's own statewide record, use the official GCIC process rather than treating a recent jail list as a complete history. The Chatham Sheriff's Criminal History and Fingerprint Unit publishes a mail-only name-search process with a driver-license copy and a $15 money order or cashier's check. Its stated processing time is three to five business days, and the unit can be reached at 912-652-7650. Confirm the current instructions before mailing because forms and fees can change.

If a disposition is missing or wrong, obtain the final record from the clerk that decided the case. Ask the agency that submitted the data to transmit the correction; GCIC cannot invent a disposition or independently rewrite the originating agency's record. Eligible record restriction is also a separate process and does not erase every police, jail, court, and repository copy at once.
